College students should be encouraged to pursue subjects that interest them rather than seek programs that promise entry into the job market.

With greater and greater pressure from competition in the job market, college students may face a tough problem: on one hand is the subject that they are interested in; on the other hand are programs that promise a good future. Some people claim that students should be encouraged to pursue subjects that interest them rather than seek programs that promise entry into the job market. However, making a balance between the two purposes is not only reasonable but also viable for college students.

Interest is one of the most significant factors that secure success in the study of certain academic subjects. Why should interest, you may wonder, play so important a role in the study of certain fields. College and university provide students chances to have a deeper and broader understanding in certain field and most of the subjects in college study are not only complex but also boring if one has no interests on that subject. Students who are not interested in certain field will lack impetus to overcome the boredom of study and the obstacles that is on the way of academic exploration. Among the students who I know in my university, those who have the outstanding performance in their chosen field are all have great enthusiasm in academic study, hence they are willing to spend more time and do more efforts on the subjects they like and feel a stronger sense of success if they obtain some achievements. At the same time, those who failed in some courses are the same students who complain that they are not suitable to study on those subjects and the complexity of the courses are beyond their capability. Interests are so curial in the academic success that it is very important for college students to be interested in the subjects they choose.

However, at least equal importance should also be put to a more pragmatic purpose: finding a job. College students should know what their purpose of study in college is: to prepare themselves for their future lives and lives include a successful career. If students did not pay any attention to the job market, they would feel less competent than peer job seekers and experience frustration when turned down by the employers. A good program in university life can help the students a lot in applying for a position in the job market. Good programs can rich the experience of the students in the areas associated with the program and make the students more quickly adapt the specific tasks in the practical job. Therefore, seeking programs that promise entry into the job market are also vital to students' future lives.

Considering what discussed above, students should be encouraged to make a balance between the two factors that both are crucial. It is better for students to seek programs that involve what they are interested in and what facilitate them in finding a job in future. However, it is too idealistic to think that such good programs, which are associated intimately with the subjects that attract them and also helpful for the students?  future job, can always be available to students. But the possibility that a program that promise the entry into the job market and has something to do with what the student interests is much larger and student is advisable to choose such program. If what students are interested in and the program that are available to them are incompatible, the best way to overcome the conflict?? so at least it seems to me-- is for students to first take into account the practical need for their future jobs for that interests can be cultivated in certain field if one makes his/her efforts into that field. There is no doubt that many successful people initially did not pursue the field in which they have achieved success later. Hardly can people find their talent in certain area until they really devote themselves into that area. Thus it is quite possible that students would be interested in the programs that would secure them a good job after getting a deeper understanding of that program.

To sum up, both, that is, to study what they interest and enthusiastic with and a programs that can be helpful in their finding jobs, are crucial to college students. If the two are incompatible, a viable way is for students to seek programs that have something to do with their interests and cultivate their interests in that field.
